What is a BIMI checker?

The BIMI checker is a lookup tool that checks a domain for an existing BIMI record. If one is found, the BIMI checker will reveal the BIMI record and confirm that it’s compliant with BIMI standards. It will also show useful information, such as your company logo featured in your BIMI record along with your VMC certificate.

What is BIMI?

Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) provides companies and email marketers with a method to display brand logos in email communications.

Similar to email authentication protocols like DMARC, SPF, and DKIM, internet and email service providers use email authentication with BIMI to verify emails sent using your company’s email domain.

BIMI and email marketing go hand-in-hand, providing secure email branding and enhancing brand visibility through email.

How to use the BIMI checker and read your results

Using the BIMI checker is simple. Just enter the domain your company uses for email communications and hit “BIMI Check.”

If the BIMI is unable to find a record, you’ll receive a relevant error message.

If you don’t have a BIMI record, it’s strongly recommended that you create one to add to your DNS settings to begin the BIMI verification process. You can do so using a BIMI Generator, which also contains helpful information such as a BIMI setup guide and BIMI logo specifications.

Troubleshooting BIMI issues

If your company logo isn’t appearing in emails or if your subscribers aren’t receiving your emails, it may indicate that an issue occurred during the BIMI verification process.

Before taking the next step, consider some of the most common issues when implementing BIMI for business.

My company logo doesn’t appear

Your company logo may not appear in your emails for any of the following reasons:

✓ Email authentication with BIMI is not supported by your ESP - If the BIMI checker shows the necessary components, the issue may be with your ESP. Not all support BIMI verification, so check with yours for more information.

✓ The image file doesn’t meet the requirements - BIMI images require the following:

  • Minimum height and width - 96 px
  • File size - < 32 KB
  • Include a description for the image
  • Use a solid color background
  • No external links
  • Image must be square

✓ DMARC is not enabled - A DMARC email authentication record is required to use BIMI. Additionally, BIMI standards also require the policy type ‘quarantine’ or ‘reject.’

Frequently asked questions

A BIMI checker tool is a free way to look up and verify a domain’s BIMI record. It also confirms that the BIMI record is compliant with BIMI standards for email authentication.

Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) is a way for businesses to establish a verified logo for use in emails. BIMI verifies that your company has the trademark to the logo and provides an additional email authentication protocol in which all trusted senders must use the logo image indicated in the BIMI record.

BIMI verification provides businesses and email marketers with the following benefits:

• Enhances brand visibility with logo recognition
• Offers secure email branding
• Helps service providers distinguish between trusted and unsafe emails sent from your domain
• Improves email deliverabilityA sender’s ability to reach the recipient’s inbox with their outgoing emails. It may also describe the ratio of emails delivered to the inbox vs. those sent to spam or blocked by the receiving server.

The BIMI logo specifications are as follows:

• Must be no bigger than 96 px (specified in absolute pixels)
• File size must be less than 32 KB
• The image must be square
• Must not contain external links
• Must contain a description tag

BIMI can help businesses improve and protect their email sender reputation by authenticating their emails with a lawyer-verified logo. BIMI is another email authentication protocol like SPF and DKIM, which allows service providers to distinguish trusted senders from bad actors easily. Email service providers trust brands that correctly authenticate emails using these protocols.

You can display your brand logo in your marketing emails by uploading a BIMI record to your DNS and completing the BIMI verification process. You’ll need to include a valid BIMI record, the required logo image file, and a VMC that verifies ownership of the logo.
