When SR Pro took a close look at a healthcare enterprise’s email database, one issue stood out. The company had a whopping two million records, but no clear picture of how much of that data it could trust.
Using ZeroBounce, SR Pro validated nearly 800,000 email addresses, uncovered about 128,000 invalid contacts, and helped recover roughly 2,000 addresses that would otherwise have been lost.

“Clean data is valuable. Knowing exactly where your data stands is what lets you act on it,” Wasserman says.
What started as large-scale email validation for a client ultimately changed how the client manages new email data altogether.

SR Pro’s client had reached its marketing contact limit, but Wasserman saw a bigger problem: the company didn’t know how much of its existing data it could trust.
“The client had a two-million record database and had consumed their entire marketing contact limit, but only about 800,000 of those records actually had email addresses,” Wasserman explains. “So they were paying to hold and manage a large volume of data whose quality nobody had ever really questioned.”
Some contacts had already been labeled as “bounced,” but Wasserman didn’t want to assume every label was accurate.
“What concerned me most was that a lot of contacts were flagged as ‘bounced,’ but we had no confidence those flags were accurate. Some may have been marked bounced by mistake.”

SR Pro used ZeroBounce to validate nearly all of the client’s 800,000 email addresses. The results immediately showed how much questionable data had accumulated.
“First, the scale: roughly 128,000 of the 800,000 came back invalid. That was higher than I expected.”
But the number of invalid email addresses wasn't his biggest discovery. SR Pro also identified about 3,000 addresses with slight domain misspellings, such as “Gamil” instead of “Gmail,” “Yaho” instead of “Yahoo,” and “Hootmail” instead of “Hotmail.”
For Wasserman, those typos changed the way he looked at email validation.

Ultimately, SR Pro recovered roughly 2,000 email addresses affected by domain typos.

Recovering email addresses was only part of the value SR Pro found in the validation results.
ZeroBounce gave SR Pro information it could use to make more informed decisions about the email list. In addition to identifying roughly 128,000 invalid email addresses, ZeroBounce found about 46,000 known complainers – people who have a tendency to mark many emails as spam.
The client chose to retain those contacts, but it can now take that information into account when deciding how to approach its email marketing.
SR Pro also cross-referenced the ZeroBounce email validation results with data from the client’s revenue operations platform and reclaimed database space against the client’s record limit.
“We recovered roughly 2,000 real, reachable contacts that had been lost to domain typos, which is direct revenue potential handed back to them,” Wasserman explains. “We surfaced about 46,000 serial complainers the client now factors into their sends even though they chose to keep them in the system. And we reclaimed database space against their record cap.”
For Wasserman, the biggest payoff was visibility.
“For the first time, the client could actually see the true condition of their list and make deliberate decisions about it, instead of guessing.”
EMAIL LIST QUALITY

Validating nearly 800,000 email addresses solved an immediate problem, but it also exposed a longer-term one. No email database will stay clean on its own.
“The one-time cleanup made something obvious: bad data doesn’t arrive all at once; it enters record by record, at the point of capture, and it keeps coming,” Wasserman says.
That realization changed SR Pro’s approach. “A single pass caught 128,000 issues. If we did nothing else, the same debt would simply rebuild over the next year.”
Rather than waiting for another large cleanup to become necessary, SR Pro helped the client establish email validation at the point of capture.

Instead of allowing questionable email data to accumulate and dealing with it later, the client can now evaluate email addresses as they enter the system.
“What it changes going forward is simple: their list stays clean by default, their sender reputation is protected, and they never have to run a massive emergency cleanup again.”
