CASE STUDY

A client sending over 10,000 emails a week was dealing with junk sign-ups and a 30% bounce rate. The Operations Company used ZeroBounce and safeguards within HubSpot to clean up the data and get the bounce rate down to 0.5%.
The Operations Company helps businesses get more from HubSpot through implementations, migrations, and ongoing revenue operations projects. As an Elite HubSpot Partner, the company works with clients across a range of industries, each with distinct audiences and email approaches.

The Operations Company is an Elite HubSpot Partner that helps businesses implement, migrate, and improve their HubSpot platforms. Its team supports ongoing projects designed to strengthen revenue operations, organize customer data, and help clients get more from their marketing and sales systems. The company serves HubSpot customers across industries, tailoring its approach to each client’s needs.
Some clients may need help reaching more than 50,000 people. Others have an audience of as few as 50. Regardless of size, poor data can keep their email marketing from performing as it should.
“Our clients come in with bad data, high bounce rates, or other issues that we help correct,” said Anthony Bertolino, Senior Operations Manager at The Operations Company. “These issues impact our clients’ ability to properly deploy marketing efforts.”
One client presented an especially difficult case.
The client operates a large self-service product platform and sends more than 10,000 emails per week, sometimes significantly more. Because people could create their own accounts, its database had accumulated junk and spam sign-ups.
Those unprotected registrations left the company with sketchy email addresses and a bounce rate of 30%.
At that level, this wasn’t as simple as cleaning the list and calling it a day. The Operations Company needed a way to improve the data and help keep it clean.
“We needed a strong tool that we could recommend to our clients that provided clean, consistent, verified data for sending lists while also providing the tools to help improve email health as a whole,” Bertolino said.
The team found ZeroBounce through its own research and recommendations from other companies in the industry.

The quality of data delivered is what made us gravitate toward ZeroBounce.

Email validation was integral to the decision, but The Operations Company also saw added benefits in the suite of tools and monitors available on the platform.
“Additional tools such as the Blacklist Monitor and Email Warmup bring additional value,” Bertolino said. “These features, combined with the quality of email verification that ZeroBounce offers, made it a clear winner.”
The Operations Company used ZeroBounce to validate the client’s email data and identify which contacts to keep on its sending lists. It also put guardrails in place within HubSpot to keep invalid and suspicious addresses out of future campaigns.
“We implemented ZeroBounce validation as well as some safeguards within HubSpot itself to ensure this client was only sending emails to valid addresses,” Bertolino said.
The email validation results also helped the team identify patterns connected to junk accounts and spam sign-ups. That allowed the client to remove bad data rather than continue sending to addresses that could hurt its email performance.
“Since they are a large self-service product platform, we were seeing a lot of junk or spam sign-ups,” Bertolino said. “ZeroBounce not only helped improve their email health, but also helped us clean out the bad actors.”
The improvement did not happen with a single campaign. The client had been sending emails at a high volume, and it took several months of cleaner sending for its email performance to improve.
Over that period, the bounce rate fell from 30% to 0.5%.
For a client sending at least 10,000 emails every week, that meant far fewer messages going to invalid addresses. Bertolino said the lower bounce rate reflected “better overall health, cleaner send lists, and stronger deliverability.”
The client also experienced higher inbox placement, fewer spam complaints, stronger engagement, and a better sender reputation, Bertolino added.
The Operations Company uses most of the ZeroBounce tools, including email validation, email scoring, Email Finder, DMARC Monitor, Blacklist Monitor, Email Testing Tools, and Email Warmup.
For Bertolino, the full suite of tools gives “the ability to improve our email health beyond just making sure the emails we send to are verified.” Blacklist Monitor and Email Warmup were the two features he singled out as especially valuable.
That broader approach helps The Operations Company support clients with a range of email and deliverability challenges. Instead of treating high bounce rates as an isolated issue, the team can address the underlying data and deliverability conditions.
Get the tools you need to validate your email data, monitor your sender reputation, test deliverability, and improve your chances of reaching the inbox – all in one plan.
The client’s improvement demonstrates what can happen when email validation is integrated into a broader data-quality process. ZeroBounce helped The Operations Company clean up the existing database, while safeguards in HubSpot helped keep invalid and suspicious addresses out of future sends.
The result was a reduction in bounce rate of more than 98%, from 30% to just 0.5%.
Bertolino described ZeroBounce as “one of the most impactful email marketing tools we have ever used,” giving the platform a perfect score — “10 out of 10.”
“We’re looking forward to our continued partnership,” he said.
