Marketing Emails: Things You Should Check Before You Hit Send
You wrote the best newsletter you could write and now you’re ready to send it out to your faithful subscribers, who can’t wait to click through your latest. That’s great, but wait a minute. Before you hit “Send,” make sure you follow these steps, just to confirm that your marketing emails look spick-and-span and you haven’t made any mistakes.
Double-check your list
If you’re targeting your email to a specific list, and the content is crafted accordingly, you wouldn’t want it to land in other people’s inboxes, right?
Step number one: review the list you’re sending the newsletter to, even when you’re sure you’ve got the right segment.
Also, cleaning your list periodically is essential and can save you a lot of money. Use a reliable email validation system to ensure the deliverability of your newsletters, and you’ll see results in the shortest amount of time.
Update your subject line
We guess you are using templates for your marketing emails, and each newsletter obviously has its own subject line. Before you send your newest email, confirm that you’ve updated its subject line and that it’s not automatically duplicated from your last one. Your content is different, and so should the subject line. Don’t forget to also check the URL of your newsletter, just in case someone decides to save the link and promote it.
Grammar, grammar, grammar
Your brand consists of many elements, and the manner you communicate is one of the strongest ones. Don’t let poor copy ruin your image. Find innovative ways to express yourself. Let your creativity work its wonders. But, most importantly, double-check your spelling to ensure your content is correctly presented and is pleasant to read.
Are all of your links functional?
This is probably the most important detail that you should verify. You can write the best copy and come up with the most creative call-to-action, but if your links are broken, all your work will be in vain. Go back and check every single link, see if it’s functional and if it’s leading to that fantastic product you’ve just pitched.
Your marketing emails should look great
We’ve talked about how much they matter, so it’s worth taking a closer look at them before you send out your email. Are all images the right size and does their format match your template? Do the light and color of your pictures form a pleasing visual unity? Review all these features and make the necessary adjustments where needed.
Test before you send
We know this is a no brainer, but many people forget to do it or simply don’t pay attention to this step. Send a test mailing when you feel your campaign is ready to go out into the world. Even after following all the steps above, you never know what tiny little detail you overlooked.
